The producer is Jaasu, whose credits include records for Toliver, Yeat and Vict0ny. Instead of chopping the source into fragments, he leaves the melody easy to recognize and lets JoJo Hailey’s voice open the song before heavy drums and distorted synths take over. Offset handles the flirtation (“Thinkin’ ’bout you all day and all night,” he raps), Toliver’s verse drifts off to Waikiki, and Offset returns with his own version of the Jodeci chorus. DeVante Swing, the Jodeci member who wrote and produced the original, is credited as a songwriter. Why this sample keeps coming back “Freek’n You” was the first single from Jodeci’s third album, The Show, the After Party, the Hotel, released in June 1995 on Uptown and MCA. It reached No. 14 on the US Hot 100 and No. 3 on the R&B and hip hop songs chart, and it was certified gold. It has also become one of the most reused R&B records of its decade: 2015: Future and Mila J sample it on “FreakNic.” 2017: PartyNextDoor interpolates it on “Freak in You,” from the EP Colours 2, which Drake later remixed. 2019: DJ Khaled samples it on “Freak N You” with Lil Wayne and Gunna. 2026: Offset and Don Toliver build “Every Night” around it. That is four major rap and R&B reworkings in 11 years, from 2015 to 2026, and the appeal is easy to hear. The original is slow, roomy and recognizable within a bar, which hands a rapper a ready-made mood without asking him to write a big hook of his own. The road to GMFU This is the third time Offset and Toliver have worked together, after “Had Enough” in 2019 and “WORTH IT” in 2023. The rollout started with “Something I Need” in September. Offset confirmed the October 23 date in a video interview on October 2 and revealed the title the next day while at Paris Fashion Week. “I’m straight to the music,” he said in that interview, adding, “I love my fans, I love fashion.” The title abbreviates a profane four-word phrase, and the album follows two 2025 projects, HAUNTED BY FAME and KIARI. It also lands at a busy moment for his old group. Quavo’s new album QRÖMELIFE includes “Away,” the pair’s first song together in five years, and a Migos reunion in honor of the late Takeoff is on the way, with new music and a tour. Offset, who has passed two billion solo streams in the US, gets his own statement out first. The video, assessed Directed by Mikey Rare and SheShe Pendleton, the clip casts Offset and Toliver as high rollers in a dim, expensive-looking casino. The mood suits the record: a darker palette matches Jaasu’s distorted production better than a bright party set would. The trade-off is the branding. The video doubles as a promotional tie-in with Crown Royal Marquis, and a casino is a familiar backdrop for a song that is about late-night romance rather than gambling. The music does more to honor its 1995 source than the visual does, and the clip could belong to almost any luxury single. GMFU is due through Motown on Friday, October 23.
